Work

Where I've worked, in reverse order — building software and, more recently, the teams that build it. My résumé is here if you'd prefer the condensed version.

Sep 2025 — Present

Founding Engineer → Lead Engineer → Director of Engineering → VP of Engineering

Santa Monica, CA

  • Architected and built the backend from scratch as the company's first engineer — Go microservices on PostgreSQL, NATS JetStream, and Kubernetes, provisioned with Terraform and Terragrunt. I personally built the identity, billing, AI proxy, and integrations services plus the web dashboard, then led the cloud team that built operations, notification, and logging.
  • Designed a multi-tenant IAM service in Go — OIDC, RBAC with role and permission mapping across users, organizations, and groups, full JWT lifecycle, SSO and SAML, and email and SMS invitation flows — removing the platform's last third-party identity dependency.
  • Built a billing service with bidirectional Stripe sync spanning products, prices, coupons, discounts, and metered AI usage overage, wired into IAM so entitlements gate product features automatically.
  • Built a provider-agnostic AI proxy giving every internal service a single interface across OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini, and Deepgram, with caching and model-switching to optimize cost and usage.
  • Built bidirectional local-to-cloud sync and an S3-backed object sync service using content hashing and delta management, enabling the product's local-first processing model.
  • Grew engineering from one person to ten across three sub-teams — cloud, application, and IT & security — installing a lead engineer over each and writing the management guidelines they operate under.
  • Designed the systems-design interview and the company's hiring process, and own engineering strategy, budget, procurement, and vendor relationships.
  • Drove SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance across all backend services — audit logging, access controls, and data-handling policy — working directly with external compliance advisors.
  • Built an AI-powered GitHub PR review bot that reviews commits, locates related code across the entire codebase, and leaves inline findings, cutting review time from a couple of hours to well under one.
  • Spent three weeks restructuring the desktop team's Rust codebase — CI/CD workflows, dead code and dependency removal, module decomposition, and unit and end-to-end test coverage.

KOHANTIC

Sep 2025 — Present

Founder

Los Angeles, CA

  • Founded a California technology consultancy for startups and growing businesses, covering custom software, cloud and infrastructure, data and AI, IT support, security and compliance, and automation.
  • Engagements are fixed-scope and quoted up front, and clients own all code, infrastructure, and documentation from day one. Run alongside full-time work.

Jul 2024 — Sep 2025

Software Engineer → Technical Project Manager

Moorpark, CA

  • Designed and built C6 Deploy, a computer-aided dispatch platform for police real-time crime centers with live mapping, asset tracking, and real-time updates. I shipped v1 solo; it is still sold as a company product.
  • Promoted to Technical Project Manager after taking ownership of the project, directing scope, architecture, and delivery for a three-engineer team.
  • Built the backend in Python and FastAPI, then proposed and led the migration to Go microservices.
  • Architected AWS infrastructure with Terraform and implemented Kafka and Elasticsearch event sourcing for durable, immutable, fully auditable dispatch records.
  • Developed a responsive React frontend and interactive dispatch dashboard.

UCLA

Jun 2023 — May 2025

Instructor & Teaching Assistant, Engineering

Los Angeles, CA

  • Instructor for CS97, Advanced Machine Learning, across two summer sessions under a teaching assistant appointment.
  • Mentored 100+ undergraduates per quarter and designed learning materials and assignments covering data science, machine learning, and AI fundamentals.

ROD LLC

Jan 2022 — Apr 2023

Co-Founder & CTO

Remote

  • Co-founded “Ride or Dial” and architected a SaaS CRM for roofing and solar sales teams on Next.js and MongoDB, scaling to 5,000+ monthly active users.
  • Raised a $60K pre-seed and closed a $100K first-year enterprise contract with a Boston-based energy company.
  • Grew the team to 12 across engineering and sales as technical co-founder.
  • It ended when our only investor withdrew and we couldn't raise a replacement round. I learned more from winding it down than from building it — governance and legal structure are not paperwork, and one investor plus one major client is two single points of failure.
